Vision, Mission & Aims

Oil and Gas Refining Technologies Department

Department Vision

The Department of Oil and Gas Refining Technologies aspires to be the preferred and foremost destination for a broad segment of secondary-education graduates seeking specialization in one of the most strategic and vital sectors of the national economy. The Department is committed to ensuring that its academic outcomes meet the highest standards of quality, thereby enabling its graduates to become the trusted, first-choice candidates for public- and private-sector companies operating in the fields of oil and gas and their downstream industries — a standing earned through their advanced technical competence and their capacity to keep pace with the rapid developments in this vital sector.

Department Mission

  • To provide an integrated scientific, technical, and practical environment dedicated to preparing qualified technical professionals and engineering personnel in the field of oil and gas refining, in line with the requirements of the local and regional labor market.
  • To optimally harness the Department’s scientific, laboratory, and administrative resources to ensure the graduation of technical cadres possessing both theoretical knowledge and applied skill in refining, separation, and the chemical conversion of hydrocarbon materials.
  • To adopt the most advanced, internationally recognized applied methods and technologies in the oil and gas refining industry, ensuring a high standard of quality in educational outcomes and keeping pace with industrial and technological developments.

Department Objectives

  1. To prepare specialized technical personnel capable of working in refining units and gas-processing plants, using the latest methods and technologies in the fields of distillation, catalytic cracking, hydroprocessing, and component separation and purification.
  2. To enrich students’ technical and engineering thinking with concepts and issues related to industrial safety, environmental protection, and energy conservation, alongside computer-based applications used for industrial process control and monitoring.
  3. To equip students with the practical and applied skills required to work efficiently, whether independently or as part of engineering and technical teams within oil refineries and gas plants.
  4. To provide students with the theoretical and applied knowledge required in the field of oil and gas refining, consistent with the needs of various industrial and production organizations in both the local and regional environments.
  5. To stimulate and support scientific research in fields related to refining technologies and the oil and gas industry among faculty members and students, encourage participation in local, Arab, and international conferences and symposia, and strengthen cooperation with corresponding departments in other universities and institutes.
  6. To provide specialized training courses for government departments, oil companies, and various related disciplines, with the aim of raising technical efficiency and advancing the performance of these departments and institutions.
