Establishment of the Department

The Department of Power Mechanics Techniques was established in the academic year (1987–1988). At that time, it was named the Department of Machinery and Equipment Techniques, with only one branch: Automotive Techniques. In the academic year (2010–2011), a new branch-Power Generation Techniques-was introduced in response to labor market needs in the country, particularly for work in various types of electrical power generation plants. Thus, the department now consists of two technical branches. The department is considered one of the earliest scientific departments established at Al-Hawija Polytechnic College. The study duration is two academic years. It admits graduates of preparatory school (both applied and biological branches) into the Power Generation Techniques branch. The Automotive Techniques branch admits graduates from preparatory school (applied and biological branches) as well as graduates from vocational industrial schools, for both male and female students. The department has achieved significant progress in preparing technical staff by keeping pace with scientific developments in technical education. This is done through academic programs governed by standards aimed at producing graduates capable of competing in the local and regional labor market. The department also enhances the role of graduates in improving maintenance and operation processes in power generation plants, as well as in vehicle inspection and repair.Additionally, the teaching staff is continuously developed by sending them for postgraduate studies and involving them in workshops, scientific seminars, and continuing education courses held inside and outside the college.
