Within the Visiting Professor Program, Al-Hawija Polytechnic College Organizes a Scientific Workshop on (Reactive Power Compensation by PV Inverters in Distribution Systems) via the (Google Meet) Application
Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and under the follow-up of the Dean of Al-Hawija Polytechnic College, Professor Dr. Omar Khalil Ahmed, the Department of Electrical Engineering Techniques, in cooperation with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, and within the Visiting Professor Program, organized an electronic scientific workshop via the Google Meet application entitled:
“Reactive Power Compensation by PV Inverters in Distribution Systems”

The workshop was attended by a number of the college staff and external participants from various Iraqi universities.
The workshop addressed: The concept of reactive power compensation in electrical distribution networks, and the role of photovoltaic system inverters in improving network performance through voltage support, reducing losses, and raising operational efficiency, as well as demonstrating the mechanisms of utilizing modern photovoltaic inverters in enhancing the stability of electrical power systems.
The workshop showed that: The effective use of photovoltaic system inverters is not limited to injecting active power only, but also extends to contributing to reactive power compensation and improving the power factor, which reflects positively on electrical power quality and network reliability.
The workshop also showed: The important technical impact of using photovoltaic system inverters in providing ancillary services to the network, particularly through the implementation of control strategies such as (Volt–Var Control), which contribute to regulating voltage and reducing its fluctuations in distribution networks. It also explained that the smart operation of these inverters allows for improving voltage stability and reducing technical losses, especially in networks with high penetration of solar energy systems, with the possibility of achieving an effective balance between active power and inactive power injection within the operational limits of the inverter.
The workshop aimed to: Introduce the latest applications associated with employing solar energy systems in distribution networks, and demonstrate the importance of photovoltaic system inverters in addressing some operational challenges, while highlighting the scientific and practical aspects of this field.
The workshop came out with the following recommendations: Enhancing scientific cooperation between universities and academic institutions, encouraging research in renewable energy applications in distribution networks, and supporting the use of modern technologies that contribute to improving electrical system efficiency and power quality.
